Louvre

The Louvre Museum is one of the largest and most important museums in the world. Back in the day this was a fortress constructed in 1190 by King Philippe Auguste overlooking the river Seine. In the 16th century The Louvre was replaced with more renaissance style building created by architect Pierre Lescot. It was a palace for the next 3 centuries and today is a magnificent building with the most treasured art collection in the world. The most recent addition to the Louvre was the construction of the Louvre Pyramid, which functions as the museum's main entrance. The pyramid was built in 1989 by the renowned American architect I.M. Pei. The glass pyramid allows the sunlight to enter the underground floor. -Paris, 2013-
